As any dieter knows, there is a lot of information floating around about diet and exercise. The worst part is that some of what you read can actually sabotage your weight-loss and make you fatter.
Let's separate fact from fiction! In order to prevent this from happening, be vigilant about your behaviour, and make sure you aren't making any of the following dangerous dieting mistakes: 1) Skipping meals- To lose weight, you need to reduce the number of calories you consume and maximize the calories you burn. But it doesn’t mean that you should start skipping meals to reduce your overall calorie intake. Skipping breakfast or lunch is the worst mistake you can commit. This results in slowing down your metabolism, making it harder for you to lose weight. Also, overtime your body will go into survival mode which can cause weight gain.
2) Purging- Purging, according to its medical definition, includes making yourself vomit, chewing food and then spitting it out, and abusing laxatives. These behaviours are signs of an eating disorder. 3) Avoiding dairy products- Dairy products have a bad reputation among dieters who consider them to be too high in fat and lactose. While it's true that too much whole milk and rich cheese can contribute to weight gain, there is ample evidence that low-fat dairy products are an excellent choice for dieters.
4) Avoiding exercise- Yes, you can lose weight without exercise. But chances are you will gain the weight back again once you stop dieting. Get a tape measure and keep track of the inches you'll lose when you add strength-training to your workouts.
